Ok so I have a problem. A friend of mine (and when I say friend, in this particular case, I actually mean a friend and not me) was raised only by his mother and did not grow up with a male influence. He imitated his mother during potty training and only learned to pee sitting down. He revealed to me that he doesn't understand the etiquette of peeing while standing up and wants to get over his habit of peeing while sitting down. I didn't want to make fun of him, but I am having a hard time getting everything through to him. I think I made it too simple and just said: "Stand up, hold it, aim, shoot". Can anyone come up with a step-by-step that is more specific and clear? I don't know if there is something that I am neglecting to get across to him. It seems to be a really serious issue for him and he wants to go to bars and restaurants and pee "normally".

Ok, someone said, ‘show him.’ I think they were trying to be funny, but this may be a valid approach. Assuming that you are both hetero, comfortable with your sexuality, and over the age of 21, I would recommend that you invite him over for a few beers and get him loosened up. When the time comes to break the seal, leave the door open and ask him to come over. You can either pretend that you just thought of a good joke, or you can be blunt and say, ‘ok, here’s how its done.’
This should be all he needs.

what? Does this guy need a manual? As you already him you stand , you unzip, aim and relax.Easy Pee-sy, as they say.Failing that make him drink 10 pints of lager then lock him standing up in a cupboard with only bottle to pee in so he has to pee standing up.

He needs to practice in the privacy of his own home. I don't really understand why this is so difficult for him since I grasp the concept and I'm a girl.
