Best team? Hard to pick just "one" that is clearly better than all others...but..here's my shot at it...

Contenders

Carolina Panthers- So long as Steve Smith isn't seriously injured(whoops! too late!) they stand a good chance of being a serious contender.

Chicago Bears- With a defense that good...who needs offense? Speaking of that, if they ever figure out what such a thing is, be afraid.

Broncos- I'm tempted to put them in my other category, but, with that oline, they're going somewhere. Even if Plummer flashes his old self in inoppurtune moments.

Colts- Great offense, decent defense, but can they ever figure out how NOT to collapse in the playoffs? Peyton and Marvin aren't getting any younger...the window is beginning to close.

Giants- If, of course, Eli Manning progresses, which will probably happen. Their strength is their lack of glaring flaws, just as their weakness is their lack of great strengths..well, aside from that pass-rush.

Steelers- The Bus was an emotional leader, but he no longer bore a large part of the ground game. Willie Parker and Duece Staley figure to pick up the slack, and Big Ben is probably just going to get better. Great oline, and awesome defense round out a great team.

Bengals- With Carson Palmer on pace to start in the opener, there's little doubt the Bengals will contend once more. Their young defense has a year of experience, and other than a few defensive additions, much has stayed the same, which, for them is a good thing. Explosive young team on the rise here.

Seahawks- Last but not least is the NFC Champion. Though their line will no doubt be weaker without Hutch, it is still formidable. With talent galore everywhere one looks, this team is scary good.

Pretenders(Teams people like but aren't going to amount to much)

Cowboys- Since when was Drew Bledsoe any good? He has an army of apologists for a reason people...he can't hold up under pressure(aside from telegraphing passes, taking too long to get rid of the ball, fumbilitis, statuesque ability to move, and poor decision-making)! And TO is a problem waiting to happen. Don't underestimate that defense though...

Dolphins- You have no idea how painful it is for me to accord them the respect of typing their full name....but I know them. I saw the same team last year...except last year, they played in Buffalo. Mike Mularkey is a moron and Daunte Culpepper is overrated as hell, as well as having a tendency to fumble. Harrington is a joke, Ronnie Brown is unproven, and they're using Buffalo's scraps to plug their oline. I can assure you that Bennie Anderson sucks and that he will be a great boon to the "John McCargo for defensive rookie of the year campaign", 'cause everyone blows right by him(if he doesn't get caught holding them or false starts first). Their defense is old and ready to collapse any season now. Jason Allen STILL isn't in camp. It's a wonder people think they're better than the Pats.

Redskins
Ah yes...I remember this. Every year, Daniel Snyder opens his mammoth checkbook in yet another attempt to buy a Super Bowl. Well, he's been doing it for...what? 5-10 years now, and it isn't going to start working, even with Gibbs back at the helm. It's hard to form chemistry when there're so many new faces every year, and for those who doubt the power of chemistry, please take a good, hard look at teams like the Pats and Steelers.

Falcons- Michael Vick. All the explanation needed.

Ravens- People think they've gotten better...but Medic! McNair'll find his way to IR and then they'll be left with Boller, who they ought to be trying to develop instead of relying on an aging vet who just can't stay healthy anymore. Their D is loosing its luster...and so is their oline.

Dark Horses

Bills- Maybe I'm biased, being a Bills fan, but don't listen to the national media. They don't go to camp. Those who do all agree...something special is brewing here, and the trail leads to Marv the Mad Scientist. Remember, people made fun of Bellichick too, and Jauron bears a startling resemblence. They have many question marks, and could be anything from a surprise contender to a joke, depending on how things pan out. Stay tuned.

Browns- Money doesn't win championships, but Romeo IS a Bellichick disciple, so that gives him a lot of credit. If Frye pans out, their's could be a tough decisions

Chiefs- Can they make it? Probably not, but this is, for many of them, a last ditch attempt at accomplishing something.

Chargers- For whatever reason, things just don't go right for them. Must be Marty. Hmmm..

Eagles- A team with this much talent is interesting, at least...but a tough division hurts their chances.

Dolphins (11-5)- There the best team in the east.
Colts (13-3)- Defense is getting better and they have probaly the best offense
Steelers (13-3)- Defending champs
Ravens (12-4)- A great defense, a pretty good qb.
Chiefs (12-4)- Good offense, Herm edwards as a coach.
Broncos (11-5)- good defense, but an unproven qb.

Redskins (12-4)- Joe Gibbs, a great defense.
Eagles (10-6)- There hungry to get back to the Super Bowl. No distractions.
Bears (11-5)- Good defense and they have the weakest division.
Panthers (14-2)- The best overall team in the NFL.
Cardinals (10-6)- This is the year they win their division.
Seahawks (10-6)- There not going to be as good as last year.
Panthers over Steelers 33-30 to win it all.

AFC North- I have to go with the Ravens (11-5). Great Defense and finally have a quarterback but need recievers to step up.
AFC East- I got the Dolphins (10-6). Defense is great and Chambers made Gus Ferotte look good last year. Added Culpepper.
AFC South- (10-6)No change. Manning and Colts offensively dominate.
AFC West- (12-4)I'm goning with Denver because of the better defense then Chiefs. Still have greatest run game.
Wild Cards- Chiefs (9-7) and Browns(yeah!) (9-7)
NFC North- Going with Bears (10-5-1). Defense is spectacular and Rex can play QB.
NFC East- Gibbs and Redskins (10-6). Play making defense and effective run and pass game.
NFC South- Carolina (10-6). Reason they didn't win superbowl was only one reciever. Johnson fills that hole.
NFC West- Got no reason not Seattle (11-5). Nobody else has decent deffense.
Wild Card- Got Dallas (10-6) and Bucs (9-7)
Denver and Carolina meet and number 16 gets the job done by a touchdown run by Mike Bell. Go Broncos!

You know people are just going to say their teams because they're either blind or stupid...some are both. I think the top AFC team is going to be Denver...probably with the same 13-3 record they had last season. NFC is going to be tougher...but because the NFC East has to play itself twice, I doubt it'll be one of them. The NFC South is looking very close again and Carolina has a shot because they look better on paper right now...but It's going to come down to Chicago and Seattle for the top record in the conference, their divisions aren't impressive at all in one way or another...I'll say Seattle at 12-4....but I'm taking Denver and Carolina in the super bowl..Denver probably wins by 3 :(

Denver was completely "stealth" last year as the Colts eclipsed how good they were, and people still don't realize how good they are. Their team is very solid right now and adding Walker was a great move for them, he'll be a franchise player over there for a while I think.

Seattle is only going to be the top record because their division still blows, Arizona has the offense...but that's not what they were in dire need of...defense is what destroys them. Chicago would take it only if their questionable division falls apart like it appears that it might...I would be amazed if a team from the NFC East or South takes the top record...but I wouldn't be suprised if they took the super bowl....regardless of how good Denver might be at that time.

Here are my picks:

AFC East: Dolphins
AFC North: Steelers
AFC South: Colts
AFC West: Chargers
Wildcard: Patriots, Broncos

NFC East: Redskins
NFC North: Bears
NFC South: Panthers
NFC West: Seahawks
Wildcard: Cowboys, Cardinals

AFC Championship Game: Pittsburgh over San Diego
NFC Championship Game: Washington over Carolina
Super Bowl XLI: Washington over Pittsburgh

The Redskins will win SBXLI because they are solid all around. Mark Brunnell will be making plays with Portis, Moss, Lloyd, and Randle El helping out. Carlos Rogers will be good in his second campaign. But most importantly the 'Skins have the leagues best coaching staff with Gibbs, Al Saunders, and Gregg Williams. I'm not a Redskins fan, but they will win the Super Bowl.

There are several contenders. New England is going to make the playoffs. Denver is awesome. Philly is extremely hungry for glory and a playoff berth. Arizona will finally step up to the plate. Indy and seattle are disappoiunted by miserable finishes to a weaker team on paper. But the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are giong to win the Super Bowl this year. why? They have arguably the best defense in the league, and clearly the best in the division. They have a good young quarterback, three good running backs (Cadillac Williams, michael Pittman, and Mike Alstott), a good WR corps, a good O-line, and arguably the best head coach in football right now, and clearly the best coach in the conference. I think Carolina, Washington, and Dallas are all going to go 5-11. Sure, Carolina looks good on paper, but the Eagles, everyone's Super Bowl favorite last year, also looked good on paper. But 6-10 doen't look that good on paper, now does it?

The Seahawks have one of the easiest schedules in the NFL, which makes them likely to have the best record, and therefore home field advantage.....best wishes to anybody trying to win a playoff game in seattle.
The AFC is a lot tougher......but I'll guess this is the year that Manning figures out how to win a big game...

I think the cowboys will be in contention for a title this year, this is their year, the colts will struggle without James but should still be good. I'm excited to see if bush and young will live up to the hype, and i think if Lienart plays AZ will be good, this year is going to be a good one. Of course I want the Bucs to win this year but thats just cause they are my favorite team. This is going to be a great year in the NFL
