I am not sure if this was discussed already on this board, but when I heard that they over turned the original verdict and that this woman was now found not guilty (for reason of insanity) I really had tro scratch my head at the judicial system, or at least at the 12 jurors...Think about it...I know I shouldn't judge depression can cause you to do some crazy stuff, but she drowned each of her children one by one...FIVE children!!!...How much time and energy did that take?....I would imagine alot of time. (enough for her to know she was doing something wrong.)?????

I know!!! I could not believe it!!! Crazy or not she should have to pay for her crimes. Those five children never had a chance. Her husband said that he noticed the signs but did nothing to stop it, he should be punished too. The judge ordered her into a hospital for 30 days, and then if the doctors say that she can leave, she will be able to go home and live her life.

I did not live far from the Yates family when this tragedy occured.Clear Lake is not really that big of a city.My husband worked with her husband at Nasa, and this lady had ALOT of mental health issues.Yes, I feel Rusty had some culpability in the case, however Andrea was and still is a disturbed person. With everyone saying she should die for what she did, don't any of us think maybe she dies a little each day, and will continue to for the rest of her life knowing what she did..Trust me, when it inatilly happened my thoughts were, maybe someone should drown her, revive her, and drown her again, for each precious life she took. But after reading the book that was written about it, and watching the whole thing unfold on the news, and talks around town. She deserves to be in a mental institution for the rest of her life. Now, it has been said that she could be released pending the judges decision, and her accomplishments made during meds, and therapy, but I doubt a judge will have the mindset to release her, knowing what the circumstances were. She should have to undergo a permenant sterilazation in my opinion, should she ever be released. But I somehow don't beleive she will.
As far as Rusty Yates moving on with his life and getting re-married.Why should he have to be miserable and alone for the rest of his life because she lost her mind?In my opinion, he is a hell of a guy, to continue to stand by her and try to see she gets the help she obviously needs, wheter or not she is still his wife..

If it had been a man who killed his 5 kids, his butt would have been in jail for the rest of his life, but since it's a woman, she gets to claim insanity. The same thing happens with women pedophilles like the ones that have been on the news lately. They get off easy, but when it's a man they go straight to jail. The ones who truly suffer because of this are the innocent children. I do believe that Andrea has some mental issues, but I am not comfortable with the fact that she can be released from the hospital whenever. They should sterilize her first before she does this again. Her husband should have been put in jail as well for leaving his kids with a woman who he was told had issues. That's neglect!! I dont care how crazy you are, if you are the kind of person who for whatever reason can drown their five babies one by one and look at thier little faces as they die a horrible death, you should be locked up for the rest of your life.

This woman had LONG TERM mental illness. Then her husband isolated her, made her stay at home and home school all 5 kids while keeping a spotless house and be perfect, and got her pregnant again after the dr said for her not to because she got postpartum depression so bad it almost killed her last time she had a kid. I think the husband should be in jail. THe day she killed the kids he left her alone before his mom got there, KNOWING it was dangerous to leave her alone. She is such a terrible wreck of a person and I feel sorry for her.

Why is nobody finding her husband just as guilty? This women's doctor told her husband after the 4th child she was suffering from PPD and she should not have anymore children and she needed help in the home. He poo-pooed all this and impregnated her again. To me at the trial he came across as very unfeeling and arrogant.
Should she be released scott free....No. But this was a horrible tragedy that may have been avoided.
He is now married again.

Any mother who kills her child (let alone 5) has a mental problem.
The woman tried to kill herself twice before she killed her kids.
She needs serious help but I dont think she will ever get well. If she does, will go insane again having to live the rest of her life knowing she killed her own children. May God have mercy on her , I dont know what else anybody can say!

I know it sounded horrible at first to me, but after I thought about I realized it might be for the best. Instead of sitting in a jail cell somewhere, she will be in a little white room and get ongoing therepy. This way she will get the help she needs. Some serious help.

hard for me also. i firmly believe she is & was menally ill.Im my though process by NO means does that make NOT GUILTY. I beleive she should the rest of her days in a medical prison because of what she did.Should the day come where she understands her crime, mental status, etc then she should be placed in a general prison. She is,was wrong, she DID Knowingly KILL those babies & only GOD can forgive her for whats she's done.
