Ice it for the first 24 hours
20 min of ice, 40 min of non-ice

After 24 hours, you can heat it. Also, start trying to stretch the muscle (don't over stretch).

I pulled a muscle ages ago. Was so painful. I was told to put an ice pack on it and count to ten slowly, then take ice off. Do this 3 times a day for 3 days. Also took anti - inflamories. (sorry cant spell) And rested it. It did work the pain eased off when i did the ice thing. Might b worth a try. If not get it checked out at hop or doc's. Good luck anyway and hope you feel better soon. xx

u can't "treat" it... u just hav 2 give it time 2 heal on its own. ive dun tht several times, and know how unbearable it can be!!! take sum ibeprophin and put a hot pack on it. dont over do it, bu keep (ur mind) active so u wont hyper focas in the pain! the worst thing that could happen (it DID happen 2 me) is that you would hyper focas on it and cause mind pver matter (the beliefe that it is worse than it is) to actually make it worse. this can cause complete emotional turmoil which leads 2 yes, physical turmoil... as i mentioned before, it will get worse. just eat healthy and drink lots of milk. that will make it heal way faster. i know milk is supposed 2 help bones, but it worked for my muscle pain 2, and anyways, i cant c the harm in an xtra glass or 2. hope u feel better soon!

Sounds silly but keep moving it. If you have pulled a muscle then over resting will cause it to tighten up and more likely to pull in the future. Put ice and then heat in alternate for about 15 minutes each and do LOTS of gebtle stretches. Resting it completely will NOT help........and Ive studied anatomy and physiology for 5 years..I know what Im on about!!!

Good luck

pulled muscles can be brutal if it can tolerate a slight kneading or robbing do it until if fells a little better...you can soak it in warm water with epsom salts for an hour...the best thing ive found is to take about 800mg of advil before you go to bed...if it still hurts bad see the doctor and get some muscle relaxers or some anti inflamatories i like flexoril or indocin

See a medical professional - do not take medical advice from random people on Yahoo! Answers on this one. Someone has already mentioned cold/heat, which is right in theory, however if you get that wrong (i.e. hot before cold or for wrong length of time) you can do a lot more harm than good.

i did that when i was pregnant and couldn't take anything other than paracetamols for the pain, but if you go to the doctors they can give you strong painkillers, or you could go to the hospital and get a scan to make sure you haven't done any serious damage

i would suggest a warm pack on the sprained area, also soak in a warm bath. (and some pain-killers).
