because it poses such intriguing possibilities for all of us/perhaps if it were possible in the future the technology might dictate no contact with the past because of the consequences

Time travel IS possible, just not with the technology that we have right now. If some one that lives a millions years in the future wanted to travel back to the past to tell us about time travel, the person would enter a parallel universe that is identicle to ours, but is not the exact one that we are in right now. There are an infinite number of parallel universes... this is why a person from the future has not reached us and told us about time travel. If you do some research on time travel you will find lots of interesting information...

All things being equal.....
I believe that Time Travel is impossible. The Past and the Future are not terrains that can be traveled to like the East or the West.
There is only one terranial time period, the Present. Only the pressent is manifested in a physical form. The notion of Time Travel loses all of it's magical appeal when one comes to the realization that Time is not a tangible substance, but just a circumstance. Reality doesn't stack moments on top of one another like pancakes. The only point in time that is ever manifested is the present. THE END. This is because, like I said, Time is not a solid matter. The Universe IS. It is doing what it is doing. The only reason the concept of time is even relavant is because some sentient can remember an event that they witnessed in the past. The overintellectualizing, romanticizing, and overestimation of Time by Scientist and Writers of Science Fiction have turned into a mystical, magical concept in which anything is possible. It is extremely important for MANY scientific theories that Time be this "Stack of Moments" that can be traversed one way or the other, in order to satisfy some of their more outlandish claims. This is why I don't trust many Scientific theories that talk of the distortion of time.
We should not let our ability to percieve the passage of time confound us and lead us to flights of fancy. Time is as much a byproduct of space as status. There is no magic in either. Once upon a time people used to think that deformed people and people with disabilities were demon posessed, just because of their appearance, their physical status. Now, we know better.
Time is circumstansial, not material.

When Hawkins et al say that time travel is possible, it is pretty much like saying that space travel was possible in the 17th Century - we had the theory and could do the maths (Newton's laws allow for the calculation of Escape Velocity, for example) - but only as a hypothetical exercise, the technology just wasn't even on the drawing board.
Some claim that Quantum Electro Dynamics contains examples of non-chronological causality which is a form of Time Travel. But I don't think there is any application of this at a macroscopic level.
Some popular science writers come up with exotic methods of time travel, glibly saying that ALL we need do is generate our own
black holes and join up the ends of the wormholes. Apparently the maths checks out, but they are rather short on practical suggestions as to how one would go about this task! It would require a greater energy source than any we know of.
BTW, I am alarmed that several answers refer you to the 'Philadelphia Experiment' This is old, old hogwash, long since debunked. Go to the CSICOP site and run a search if you want the details.

Think about what you just said, if someone did travel all the way back in time they would upset the balance of time and create a new time. Just like in Back to the Future (the Doc is totally right). And then we would invent it sooner and the guy who was suppose to invent it never would because it would have already been invented and then because he didn't invent it they wouldn't have invented the time machine and it would circle around in a endless loop.
The reason the clocks off of earth run at a different speed is because of gravity. Gravity affects the speed at which time occurs. Since their is less gravity at the moon time occurs slower then on earth.

There are scientific proofs that time travel(for particles) is possible. For an object it is not possible yet. Our technological developments do not permit to preview it in visible future.
Famous psychiatry Carl Yung assumed a very interesting affirmation: "we find the golden rectangular figure more beautiful because we have an inner remember." That is, the soul reminiscence"
I think the same can be applied for time travel.

Well actually you already can time travel. Kind of, when you go into space and the closer you get to traveling to the speed of light you are actually travelling into the past. Well the people on Earths time will go alot faster well theres will stay the same rate but yours will be actually slower. If you actually reach the speed of light then time will stop but only where you are. There is another way of time travel but it envolves alot more science and maths and its laser beams making a loop where time travels so then you can travel to the future, past then back to the present and you could go on forever but that is just a thereoy they havent actually built it yet. But they did build a machine a bit like that but you can only travel into the past when your in the future and you can travel back into the past to the date that the machine is turned on but the machine is only capable of sending particles through time. The people who made this machine are a bit hesitent to turn it on because they think they might find particles being sent back from the future.Thre is alot of other thereoys that they brought up that could happen but this answer would go on forever. There still is another way of traveling through time it brings up the same principle as the first idea but there is an actuall way of reaching the speed of light when a black hole forms the outside ring around it is traveling at an outragous speed where time and space are being circled around the pit. Well if you could get in this place then you could travel at the speed of light but as usuall it is very miniscule that you will be able to find them and get to there in time because they are very rare and usually form hundreds of light years away.
Thank you for listening

I believe that someday some form of time travel will be possible
and it will be far sooner than millions of years in the future...
As to why someone from the future has not traveled back to
talk to us...
That would be because time travel is still in our future.
Gotta get there before we can come back...

Time travel breaks every law of physics. Time is about the decay of matter and the arrow of time is forwards. It is possible in a way, theoretically, to travel forwards in time. If you took a ship close enough to the speed of light then returned to Earth, many centuries and millennia would have passed here on Earth, however you would still age at the same rate relative to your own position. If time travel were possible, many, many time travellers would have visited every age, and I find it impossible to believe that not one would have failed to make a mistake and get found out!

I once was a cab driver but now see myself as a time travel facilitator in that I can take people to a place and time in the future. Unfortunately I've not yet worked out how to reverse the process.

People believe in time travel, because it is possible and not only that, there are time travelers that exist today. Not only that, but somebody DID travel back and tell us and that person was a man named John Titor, who was from the year 2036.
