My notebook's sceen is very dark for a while. It is very hard to see the display. There is small amount of display. I have been using an external pc monitor for a long time and it works fine. I called HP, they just suggest to take it to a service and it costs almost a laptop money. . I still hope there is something that l can do manually but l could not figure it out. Do you have any suggestions that I can bring the screen back?

What you do depends upon the age of the laptop and the cause of the problem and cost of the repair. I suggest you find a Toshiba Premier Service provider locally and have them diagnose the problem. It will cost $60 or so and if you have them make the repair then they typically will apply the diagnosis fee towards the laptop repair cost. If you laptop is more than 3 or 4 years old then the cost of the repair might be more than the value of the laptop. If this problem really bothers you you might consider replacing the unit with a refurbished laptop for $300 to $400 or even bite the bullet and buy a new one for $600 to $700. Search google for "refurbished laptops" for used or "cheap laptops" for new.

I'd say that either a) the inverter is going out, which can be replaced for around $100..or b) the backlight is shot. Some techs know how to replace these, but it's hard to do.

Call http://www.screentekinc.com and let them help you diagnose the problem.

Do you want to purchase another screen? They run for about $200 for a large one 17in, 15.4 Depends on the size and the brand, but you definitely can get another screen. You could always take it to a shop and find out why the screen is so dark and what would they do to fix it? then go get one yourself and install it.

Turn up the brightness! Look on HP.com for directions. If this doesn't work the back light may be bad and needs to be replaced. It isn't cheap!
