Fluorescent lighting has a sporadic effect on the mind of most people which is not really noticeable though it slightly removes the concentration process. This is due to the ionisation of the gasses within the tube and it becomes stronger as the tube life expires, especially if the tube ends are beggining to blacken. ALL fluorescents in either offices or classrooms should have a prismatic diffuser (plastic cover with a rough surface) and cost should not be spared to carry out a COMPLETE tube AND STARTER change per room every six months. Hope this helps.

There are almost no windows in my school, none in the classrooms. The fluorescent lighting makes my classroom feel like a cave and can be very depressing sometimes. It also gives me headaches, especially if the light is noticeably flickering. Gosh i wish my school had windows!!!

This type of lighting actually flahses on and off really quickly. It is so fast that the image of light stays on your retina and the light blinks back on before your retina lost the light. (11th grade physics class) They say it helps the students stay awake. However, it can also cause other people to get headaches because of those quick flashes.

I think it is far more than people realize. It can be a depressing and irritating influence on some people, but because it is usually fairly minor in its effect and doesn't bother everyone it doesn't get taken very seriously.
