A reception office should be comfortable. Having a plasma screen TV in one area would help people but with the sound at a volume that is not disturbing to someone at the other side who just wants quiet while they anxiously wait.

Colors should be muted, not bright. Magazines and information material should be available and neatly organized. A few pictures on the wall of water or other relaxing places usually is nice.

The temperature should be moderate so a person is not too hott but not freezing due to the a/c. A water cooler is away nice, but make sure there is always a good supply of disposible cups.
