Give the guy a little credit. He saved you a few hundred dollars. And have him to tighten the belt.
If he is smart enough to replace the water pump ask him if he will replace the belt or pull it tighter so it will quit making that noise. The new pump could have came with it's own pully and the belt is too old and is squeeking on it. You cand find out pretty quick by turning off the motor and rubbing a bar of soap on the belts on the side where they connect with the pullies. Or you can make a spray bottle with a strong soap mixture and spray the belts while they are making the noise. I bet either a bad belt or too loose.

The screeching most likely is a belt. Hubby probably had to loosen the alternator when he took the bad water pump out, and reinstalled everything properly except for the tension. What you are probably hearing is the belt "skidding" as it get's up to speed.
If you stop at a service station and explain this to a mechanic, they'll more than likely tension it properly for you for free or you might give them $10 for a couple beers. It won't take but five minutes.
Don't say anything to your husband! We don't wan't to hurt his feelings!

Have a professional look at it, and if you have him drive it and he hears what is going on it won't break his heart. If anything give him one last chance to fix it and tell him that if he cannot get the sound to go away (and there be no problem) then you have to go to a mechanic, have faith that he can fix it, but don't just keep letting him over and over again because if you do you might end up with a few thousand dollar bill instead of a few hundred (if that).
It all depends on how badly you want a new car. haha.

Sounds like your husband did a good job! It is not uncommon to have to readjust the belt tension even by a pro. As a matter of fact, he is wiser for not overtightening it as it could have torn the seals right out of the new pump! The belt is simply too loose as others are telling you. Now go make him a decent meal!

It could be a loose belt, but unless you have someone look at it you won't know for sure. Maybe you should first mention to your husband that it's making the screeching noise and ask him to look at it. You don't have to mention that it started after his repair job. Maybe he'll figure out what it is or take it to someone to have it fixed. That way you don't have to hurt his feelings. You're just coming back to him for help. (-:

How could your husband "Know it all" when my husband does!
Must be a man thing.
Forget about hurting his feelings, go get it fixed professionally.Driving that truck could be dangerous. The noise indicates something is still wrong, you could be adding to the cost of repairs by running it that way.

Your car won't blow up, but don't let it go to long. There is a lose belt.He needs to put more tension on it, or he may have spilled some antifreeze on it. Stop at a garage they'll either put some conditioner on it or tighten it. Or you can just ask hubby to do it.
