Both of the answers above are right. It does depend on how they are raised, and there are good horses in every breed. I've had good luck with appendix quarter horses (thoroughbred/quarter cross). Not only are they a little taller, leaner and elegant, they have great muscle tone, are super athletic and versatile, and have a calmer temperment than most purebred TBs (and are usually reasonably priced). However, I do have a TB mare straight off the track who is the most mellow horse I've ever had. Nothing fazes her and she's a dream to ride. Warmbloods (I myself have had a Trakhener mare) are ideal for this discipline, but can be pretty pricey. Basically it comes down to what you like in a horse, your budget, and what level of experience you have, but any of the above three would work for you. I hope I helped.

It really just depends on your personality and the horse's. If you want a laid back hunter that a push-button horse, then you may want a QH mix or something like that. (I STRONGLY advise not to get a POA or Welsh-cross if you are still growing or are tall already.) Warmbloods and TBs are excellent hunter/jumpers, but tend to be a little hot-headed. You just have to look for personality.

Irish Draught/Irish Draught Sport horses would be an excellent choice. They're somewhat similar to TBs, but calmer.

My sister has ridden an ex-polo TB and she is just wonderful! I'm not sure if she's jumper or hunter (or both) but she is such a good horse! My sis won an equitation class on her! She's also ridden an Arab, wouldn't suggest that unless they are used to showing and such and laid-back.

it depends on the horse. there are hyper and calm horses in every breed. you just have to go out and try different horse until you go out and ride a few yourself.
