China, partly because I am Chinese. :). But, also China has the fastest growing GDP at the moment, with about 9-10%, it practicallly makes everything in the US, and there are so many people. Also, the Chinese do not like to fight wars, not saying India does. The working oppurtunities for China and India are tremendous, but I would still have to say China because not only does it have the potential, but it is also good for travel. It has a history of over 5000 years and there are just so many things to see! Also, China will be the potential worldpower before 2045.
China and India are going to become very strong in the future. I am so glad that somebody has the insight to see far into the future!

I would prefer China as it does not have religious extremists running around. India could potentially face sectarian fracture like Iraq is now. China may not be democratic like the west but the free market will at least open it up much more in the future. I would prefer China as a superpower because it is a more disciplined nation, Indias weapons could fall into the hands of terrorists.

India will certainly be a big superpower, but they will be distracted by their own foreign policy and terrorist issues. The answer is China. It's China, not India that is taking full advantage of the rest of the world's unhappiness with U.S. policies. As we continue to alienate allies, China swoops in with trade, energy and military deals- including South America! Americans are generally ignorant and often try to make direct comparisons between American and Chinese civilization. Oblivious to the thousands of years of Chinese civilization and unable to comprehend what the power of 1.3 billion people can do, I've heard Americans describe China as a "developing country" or "catching up to the U.S.". America has 0.3 billion people and China has 1.3 billion people. China is making great efforts to educate it's people in technology and engineering. They are pioneering research in cryptology and solar power. China has nationwide cell phone service. You can get better cell phone service in Tibet than you can where I live in CA. China has the vast majority of the world's manufacturing capacity. And most importantly, China is the country that makes our national debt possible. China is America's credit card company. Hopefully, they never decide to close our account. What a great bargaining position for a country to be in.

For those who are saying Israel or Africa(!), I say bye bye!
India is technologically better than China.
India has the power of youth on its side. Even after supplyting much of this to the foreign countries, its not at all short of labours!
India has its patient strategy of dealing with a terrorist country has brought up a huge goodwill from all over the world.
India have one of the strongest army, navy and airforce, individually, on the earth!
Indians, it seems, have their power of thought unmatched by any other people. Their average IQs are often much than that of the Chinese!
In the long run, US will be forced to be behind India if they are to avoid the problems posed by China!
All these will be of good use if and only if the Indian government has its eye on the devolopment of the nation and not the party's and its leaders treasury!

logically speaking india
1) by 2015 india would be more populated
2) china has friendship with iran , north korea and every rogue country
3) chinese cannot be trusted they called india its friends and turned on them in theyear 1952
4) chinese are destroying american economy by delibritaly keeping its currency weak
5) China is a communist countrey where people dont have rights
6) China has helped foes of america in developing nuclear technology recently every one know which country I am talking about
7) China's boom is only going to last till 2040 after which they would face major recession because right now there population is peaking, they have a skewed population because of 1 child policy
8) China has abyssymal Intellectual Property Rights
9) China is a pain for WTO
10) China has destroyed tibet , there is a major rift between internal or northern backward china, and southern developed china
11)China has a tendency of following a very self centered Foreign policy
12) Chinese hate japanese although japan gives them most of the FDI
13)History has proved time and again that chinese cannot be trusted , they are pressuring taiwan to join and a strong china with army is a big threat to asia
only india with its defence and economic power and japan with its economic power can effectively counter act china
So it makes more sense for capitol hill to be friends with india
I hope I have answered you question, I may sound like a china hater but this is actually true about china , I am a double major in economics and politics.
Take care

I would probably say China.
The main reason for that is because the word "superpower" usually has connotations of a powerful military and such. China just seems like more of a militaristic nation.
