Is basketball considered a good cardio workout as opposed to jogging on a treadmill?

yes, it is good......certainly better than nothing.

remember a good vigorous gameplay lasting about 45 minutes three times a week should help you. No exercise is good if you don't enjoy it enough to do it in a regular consistent manner.

It's great for weight loss, keep doing it (Jogging is great, but can be boring and the treadmill no comment). If your playing basketball at least 3 to 4 times a week, you should be buying some smaller shorts and pants soon.

Basketball is not considered aerobic cardio b/c you are not moving consistantly. Still, it burns calories and is a lot of fun. I would keep playing basketball while continuing your running regime.
