We have a six month old who poops once a week. This has been his schedule since he was four months when he pooped about every three days. Our doctor says anything from daily to once a week is normal. Only worry if he is not tooting or peeing. You can put him on his back and move his legs around (it has never worked for us) but some people say this helps if the baby is constipated. Lately our 6 month old has only been pooing in the car seat. I think the combination of straight back posture and car vibrations put him in the mood. Anyway, 2 1/2 days is nothing, I wouldn't worry one bit.

My baby (who's 2 now) was like that when she was young - she would not poop for days, the longest she went without pooping was 7 days, and then everything came out and it was a huge mess! LOL! I took her to the doctor several times, but her pediatrician said that as long as she wasn't constipated (straining when pooping, poop are like hard little pellets), then she's okay. Sometimes, some babies just have different ways of doing things - they do things on their own timetable. I was breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, and giving her some solids (cereal, applesauce) around that time - 4-5 months. It was just from the change of diet or the new intro to solid food. She was perfectly fine and healthy, just not regular. When she got used to trying new and different foods, she was a lot better with her bowel movements, and pretty soon she was back to being regular (kind of- like maybe alternate days). So as long as your baby is not constipated, then there is nothing to worry about. He'll poop when he needs to.

My youngest went through something similar when I started him on solids. The Dr. advised giving him an oz of water mixed with an oz of apple juice. You might also try 1/2 jar of prunes (if your baby is already successfully eating jar food). It is normal for a baby to have several days between movments. You need not be concerned unless your baby seems to be in distress or in pain. If your instincts are still telling you to call the doctor now, trust them.

Sometimes it happens when introducing new foods. Your DR will tell you that he is not constipated until he has not pooped in more than 4 days. Stop the applesauce until he goes, then try something different, maybe squash, or sweet potatoes. Try not to use too much rice cereal, as that can bind, also. Switch to oatmeal.
Just read the answer above me, NO WHEAT!!!! Your baby is to young for wheat.

Do NOT use suppositories unless directed by a Dr. This IS abnormal, babies should have a bm several times a day. Please call your Dr. In the meantime, stop the applesauce. Give more him more water. Applesauce and formula can both be binding. As suggested by someone else, start him with veggies first, like spinach.

Call your doctor if you are in doubt but it really isn't that bad until the 4th day.. STarting them on food gets them constipated.
Make sure he is getting lots of fluid and is this the first food he has tried? Applesauce isn't the best first food. Try veggies first.. Make sure he is only having a little at first as well.

wait 3 days at leaste between new foods, the guy saying different is incorrect. i would call the doctor, that is too long. my boy will skip a poop occasionally but you dont want to wait more than 2 days. the doctor will reccomend a laxative im sure. they have baby ones that go where the sun don't shine but they work quickly. good luck

Call his doctor, it is normal for him to get constipated after starting foods, but you shouldn't wait for more than 2 days. Try giving him some "raisin water" Boil some water, add raisins (handful) and let it sit until the water has color. Add a litle Karo syrup if you want (the clear one). It really helps, and it doesn't hurt your baby in any way.

A thing that works every time is putting some Karo syrup in his bottle. However, this shouldn't be a long term solution. Change his baby food and if you find that you have to use the syrup more often, take him to his pediatrician. My older son had this problem and the syrup worked every time.
Hope this helps.
