Because in some places, you can go that fast. Montana has no speed limit during daylight hours. Also cars are not just marketed to americans, not even american made cars. In some countries (like Germany and I have driven on the Autobahn) there is not highway speed limit.

And most cars cannot get up to the speed limit they advertise.

for legal racing purposes. You can go at those speed if you go to a track

Well, why don't cars have governors on them limitting them to the maximum speed in the US? They should.

The speed limit is there because there are idiots who would drive everywhere at maximum speed.

they need to fix that. i mean...when they have high speed chases, it sucks for them right? so everything would be alot safer and better if cars didnt have such high speeds!
