ok i have a socket 754 sempron @ 1.6 GHZ and i have a spare 2.53 GHZ P4 that i have laying around in a box which is better to use the 64-bit sempron or the P4

I looked at some benchmarks and the P4 in question is slightly better than the AMD in question, even in gaming. Of course you would have to get a different motherboard, because as many have said, P4 is not socket 754 compatible. Don't really know if the slight improvement would be worth the investment in a new motherboard.

the pentium 4 will not fit in your socket 754 motherboard

the classic argument. you'll get mixed answers on this. i depends on what your doing. if your word/data processing the Pentium will be more beneficial for you. if you are a gamer (such as me) then amd 64 bit is better for you. however rsist34 is corect only the amd will fit that motherboard.

Try them both and see which works better with your computer setup. Try searching for a CPU benchmarking program if you want a more exact answer.
