Not once a month no unless for some reason you are a high risk.I would say when you first find out,and your second one should be around 14 weeks and your third one around 20 weeks and then maybe 28 weeks and you should get one more when you are close to having the baby.So maybe four during your pregnancy.

Ultrasounds are totally safe, just mildy annoying to the baby. You may notice greatly increased movement during sonograms. This is because the way those machines work is to bounce the waves off the object inside you, this causes a vibration of your placental waters, and sounds like a mac truck to your baby. This is why some babies won’t hold still long enough for the technician to find out whether is a girl or a boy, as with my third!

What most people dont realize is an ultrasound is not as harmless as they say it is.It is actually quite noisy to the baby due to the vibrations it creates to get an image. It is said that an ultrasound sounds like a fast train passing through a station. They should not be performed too often!!!

There was a study released today that links excessive ultrasound exposure to problems with brain development. I haven't read the article yet, but the news suggested that women should only have medically necessary ultrasounds.

yes they are safe i know this because i am going to school to be able to give ultrasounds and all that good stuff although many doctors will not give you one every month unless you are high risk and you are in need to have one at least once a month they will more then likely give you two or three to check on the development of the baby it also depends on your insurance

During my whole pregnancy, I never had one ultrasound done. Maybe family doctors are different. They said if there wasn't a problem, I don't need one. We didn't even get the option.

I had several with my son. I have always heard that they can give the child ear problems if you have a lot. I believe it my son has had 3 sets of tubes. I would think though if you doctor is sending you for them than they know what's best and it's probably okay.
The article I listed says there are no side effects.
