tried all forms of t-cut, coloured wax, garage advised only a complete respray will resolve the problem. Only worth a few grand so don't want to pay out this much cash.

If the color has actually faded, you will have to refinish. If you have already tried the buffing route, your best choice is to find someone with the shop and equipment who will do it as fill-in work. Decent paint is expensive. Expect the materials alone to run $500 or more. The labor will also be expensive. Perhaps you can find a Tech school class that will do the work if you provide the materials.
