Yes, unless you cover it.

Most neighborhoods have at least some cats running around, even it's only at night. Our neighbor made a sandbox for his kids, and it was full of poop in a very short time; there's no way to know about pee, since the sand doesn't clump, but it's pretty safe to assume that was in there, as well.

He got rid of the sand, put in fresh, and made a simple top for the sandbox using a tarp and some heavy duty elastic cord, which he wove in and out of the grommets on the tarp. It keeps the cats out, and also keeps out debris like leaves and pine needles. It's also very easy to put on and take off.

I'm not a cat expert, but probably yes. I happened in my neighborhood all the time when I was growing up. If you're getting the sand for a sand box, then the best way to keep the cats out of it is to make sure you keep it covered all the time (when it's not being used).

A suggestion to avoid this: My neighbor borrowed some poo from my dog to place in her backyard (dog poo usually keeps cats away)....it actually kept the cats from coming in her yard and crapping! If you own a cat...well, a cover is probably your next option.

Yes, cats will come and do this often. I placed a wood cover over my sons sand box to avoid my neighbors cat going into it at all. Now it just lays all over my plants and trys to kill all the birds in my yard.

Yes they will. To a cat it seems like a giant kitty litter box that they have been trained to use since they were kittens. The best solution is to purchase a lid for your sandbox (most manufactures sale one) another thing you can do that requires more upkeep is plant marigolds. Cats do not like the smell of marigolds and will avoid them.

Absolutely...unless you have a wooden fence up, those cats will be like "hey, great big giant litter box!" and tell their friends. Cats will come from miles around to take a crap in your sand.

Yes. You have to make sure that you put a cover over the sand box when it is not in use.

Depends on what you use it for. If for a sand box, they will use it unless you make a cover for it so they can't get in. If just to spread out to amend the soil, no more than they would anyway with soil.

That is highly possible. Please be advised that the chances of a small to school aged child getting pin worms is great when playing in a sandbox that has had cats and/or other animals use as a toilet.
