SPOLIER

It was YukI! but the hat belongs to Kyo. Earlier that day Kyo dropped his hat and Yuki picked it up for him but Kyo didn't want anything that the rat touched.... Yuki passed a woman screaming at a police officer that her daughter was missing and she had a barret in her hair. Yuki thought he saw the little girl earlier and went back and saw her crying. When Tohru saw the boy she followed him and Yuki led her home. Kyo already knew Kyoko becuz they met once and they got along well so Kyo visited her. Kyo went looking for Tohru as well and was mad that Yuki had found Tohru. So then Kyo tried to tell Kyoko that Yuki was a bad person but Kyoko wouldn't believe him so Kyo stopped seeing her.

MAJOR SPOILER

So then Kyo saw Kyoko and knew she was goiong to get hit by the car he decided not to save her and keep the curse a secret. So she gets hit by the car and he thought he heard her say that she would never forgive him. That's why he feels regretful when they all visit Kyoko's grave in vol. 5 i think....

Actually, the boy in the hat was Yuki. Technically, the hat was Kyo's at first, but Yuki was the one who rescued Tohru.

Yuki was the boy in the hat. Or at least, that's what the book was eluding to.

I held my hair on my head and kept talking as if it was perfectly normal for an adult man to use his hand to keep his hair from flying off his head. The conversation, as you would imagine, stopped. I excused myself, and I never saw the girl again. I mean, ever. I think she transferred schools immediately after the track meet.

A wise man once said: A man with toilet lid hair is often crapped upon.
