* Your water breaks.
When the fluid-filled amniotic sac surrounding your baby ruptures, the fluid leaks from your vagina. And whether it comes out in a large gush or a small trickle, you should call your doctor or midwife.

Most women start having regular contractions sometime before their water breaks, but in some cases, the water breaks first. When this happens, labor usually follows soon. If you don't start having contractions on your own within a certain amount of time, you'll need to be induced, since your baby will be at increased risk for infection without the amniotic sac's built-in protection against germs.

Very warm water gushing out of you. My first baby I woke up and my bed was soaked so I didn't really feel it. My second baby they broke my water and I had no pain meds so I felt it and it was VERY warm - this baby I am so ready and wish my water would break NOW!

My sister, and two of my best friends all just had their babies within a month of eachother, I've asked each of them this question and they've all said they didn't even know when their water broke.. they just started feeling the contractions. Some people feel it and others don't apparently.

Like getting splashed from the waist down with a bucket of lukewarm water. Quite honestly, when it happens, you'll know. There is no mistaking it.

Kind of like you peed on yourself. Go to the Dr. and they will swab you and if the Q-tip turns blue then it is your water.
