i've gotten some interesting answers to the question regarding preteens and pelvic exams. Does anyone know if a pelvic exam is necessary in regards to the functions of the thyroid?

I had to have a thyriod exam when i was 13. The do check in side you to see if anything feels wrong. I was scared when i had to get all these tests done.

In the 20+ yrs. I have been getting treatment from a top-ranked endocrinologist for Hashimoto's and hypothyroidism, I have never, ever had him give me a pelvic exam.
The only thing I can see, and this is stretch, is that a gyn who is doing an infertility work-up would be interested in both a pelvic and thyroid exam due to the relationship of thyroid disease and infertility. However, I am thinking a pre-teen girl is not worried about fertility at this point.
Call other providers in the area, including the hospital as well, and ask what they think.

No, the thyroid is in your throat. If anybody wants to give you a pelvic exam for purposes of checking your thyroid I'd be highly suspicious. Ask why. Ask that there be a female nurse present. If there is no good answer, ask the supervising doctor about it.

Thyroid glands are located in your throat. No where near the pelvic region.

I wouldn't think so. Thyroids are checked with blood work. Not by mashing on ovaries or scraping cervix's.
