I think doing well in preseason gives the team a little confidence going into week 1...and gives the coach more confidence in calling plays or deciding who to play. I just hate waiting through the preseason until week 1...but it has it's purposes.

it is defintely a mental factor. I don't believe it shows how good a team really is though, but it will definitely help players attitudes and mental toughness playing well in the preseason, and most of all, avoiding injuries.

If I am a RAIDER it is really nice to look at a W and say atleast we did something right and take some positive from the game and start progressing.
