Because some people are just ignorant. They come from an environment where they are loud and obnoxious, and they think it's ok. They just have no consideration for people or their surroundings and where someone calls them on it they want to become belligerent and try to fight you. I can understand talking while you are waiting for the movie to start, but when the previews come on you need to shut the f**k up!!!

I know what you mean, it's annoying. I chat with my mate while the adverts are going, but once the trailers and film start, my lips are sealed, that's how it should be. I have sensitive hearing, so I can hear the lass giving her man a hand job in the back corner, which annoys a little, so kids messing about one row behind or a couple chatting about dinner later really annoys me and makes me lose track of whats going on. There are 22 other hours in a day, can't they talk then. They should make a law against it, talk in the film and barred for life or something. I feel much better after ranting like that, cheers.

Believe it or not, for some people this is totally acceptable behavior. Many of my family members are like this. It's gotten to the point that I dislike watching TV at their houses. As soon as something comes on I find interesting, they proceed to talk above it. What's more, when I protest, they act perplexed, as if I am complaining about something of no consequence.

In a movie theater, when you tell them to shut up, even if they do, for most of them, they don't feel embarrassed they they were busted out. They tend to think you are being rude and overbearing. They might shut up this time, but next time, they'll be at it again. It's just the way they are.

Some people are just plain rude and have no consideration for others. It is frustrating and annoying. You could go speak with the management.

You could shoot them dirty looks, but be careful because so many people use physical confrontation as a way of dealing with things.

I don't agree w/the person who said stay home and watch the movie alone. We have a right to want to go to a movie theater, pay our money, and be entertained w/out clods bothering us.

Thats the funny thing about people. They have nothing to say to each other in an elevator, then once they are in a movie theater, they are quoting the Gettysburg Address.
I think they are trying to be "cool" talking about their lives as if they are in a movie. Becuase you hear ridiculous things such as.. i just got back from flying an Apache attack Helicopter.

Give it a rest, Shakespeare, we are here to see a film, not for storytime.

Watching movies as a communal experience should be pleasant, but it is getting worse and makes me want to wait for the DVD. I shushed a group of teenage boys who kept talking through Supersize Me, and one stared defiantly back and said 'Don't shush me!', like I was in the wrong! Afterwards I heard other patrons complain about them - why hadn't anyone backed me up?

I know, it's unacceptable isn't it? It drives me totally nuts. I find it so bad, that it's actually stopped me going to the cinema in the evening. So, if there's a film I really want to see, [and hear], I just go in the afternoon when it's quiet.

If you want to watch the movie alone, stay home.
I remember years ago a couple walking out of "Rocky Horror Picture Show" complaining about how rude everyone was!! They didn't have a clue!

Experiencing some of this myself. Shhh doesn't mean anything either. Last weekend I was so annoyed at the people sitting in front of me. The guy,(and they weren't young people), kept leaning over to his wife to whiper to her every five minutes. Their friends were two seats away and tried to talk to them. I just took it rather than pour my water on them. In retrospect I should have douced them and taught them a lesson.

I tell those people to shut up.

I stood up and turned around in a cinema once and told the people behind me to 'shut the **** up' in a normal level voice so everyone knew they'd been told to shut up. They did
