Doing a system restore will not affect data. If it is just your Internet that is slow then uninstall your browser and reinstall it. You could also try downloading Firefox and using that. Also, you could have tons o cookies and crap. Download Ccleaner and run that. Then run a defrag. After that check Windows Task Manager and click the "processes" tab. Go to www.processlibrary.com and check each and every one of your processes for legitimacy. That will confirm if you have a virus or something. If you do, stop the process, find the bugger and kill it. You may have to manually edit your registry to keep it from coming back but Ccleaner also has a registry scanner so you could use that instead.

Needless to say, dial-up is slow. Guess you cannot get DSL.
Have you considered Cable ?
Now to your problem.
Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options and delete 'cookies' and 'files (be sure offline is checked)'. Open your browser, click on tools and again delete cookies and files.
If you do not have this, download and install CCleaner. It is freeware, easy to use and does a good job. Before doing the registry clean, do a backup of the registry.
Download and install Ad-Aware SE and Spybot Search and Destroy (if you do not already have on your computer). Run each program but do not run both programs together. After running both, shut down computer and wait a couple of minutes.
Go to McAfee.com and do an on-line scan of your computer.
Again shut down and wait.
Run a complete ScanDisk with auto fix errors checked.
Then run a full-up DeFrag. Shut down - Restart and run it again.
One other program you might consider is
Spyware Blaster. It is freeware, runs in the background, uses very few resources and blocks spyware from entering your system.
Since you do not have System Restore option, you might consider getting Norton GoBack. It works just like system restore but I do not know if it will work using Quikbooks. A quick e-mail to Norton would answer that question. Good Luck.

I have experiance with the probs you have now but on most comps I found many spyware keyloggers that a antivirus cant detect so I hope this helps and have a gooday.

Dial-up is always slow, i have it and i should know. Sometimes the speed varies for some reason. Also, if the computer is old it will be even slower. You should get virus pertection if you get viruses, in the long term this will speed things up but might make longing on slower. Dial-up is and will always be slow! i hate it but often go use my library's internet which is high speed and free. thats where i am now!

There are 150,000 'Microsoft Virus Definitions', w0rms, malware bots, and exploits. One source of weakness is that Internet Explorer and Outlook Express have direct Administrative privileges in the Windows system files! U.S. Cert. and the Department of Homeland Security have issued warnings to NOT USE THEM!
Don't use them! Get Firefox! http://getfirefox.com

Backup OFTEN, as Microsoft products thrash and trash hard drives!

The 800 Unix clones like Berkeley Software Distribution BSD - OpenBSD, FreeBSD, DarwinBSD, MAC OS X, and hundreds of GNU/Linux distributions have a total of about 35 exploits that are 'proof of concept' and only work inside laboratories, on computers which are purposely crippled.

Most software that runs in WIN32 will run flawlessly on Wine, VMware, Crossover Office, Cedega programs on MAC or Linux.
PCGaming magazine did a heads up test between Microsoft XP that was fully tweaked for speed, and a Linux distro thrown onto the same PC hardware. Both were benchmarked running Quake III.

Linux ran 8X to 50X faster in various portions of the tests! Imagine a fully tweaked Linux on your PC! (PCGaming Mag. Fall 2004). Linux has been tweaked to run better, faster, 'out of the box'!

Your system is possibly slowed due to other malware, and you need to run:
1 AVG - by Grisoft.com because it is the premiere Anti-Virus program, free to individuals in SOHO.

2. Crap Cleaner to clear the mal-entries in the registry.

3. Spybot S&D

4. Shoot the messenger

5. Thunderbird on the http://Mozilla.org website

6. Firefox at http://getfirefox.com

7. Adaware, by Lavasoft

Most of the people I know, who are in business, have replaced Microsoft with a MAC, or, better, (it's FREE, on the same PC you own now!), run http://PCLinuxOS.com and use GNUBooks and Gnumeric to replace Quickbooks and Quicken!

Search http://google.com and http://sourceforge.net for all the above that I didn't give URLs for, as they change where you download them....

Hmm maybe you are short on memory? I had the same problem and i got extra memory, its alot faster now ;)
Plus you could run a antivirus program on ur pc.
Run defragment wich should make your pc run faster and more effectively (start - all programs - accessories - system tools - disk defragment)
Get rid of stuff that you dont need, clean ur temp files and cookies ( from internet tools - options - privacy)
Empty ur recycle bin.
Well thats all i can think of now, good luck with getting it faster, i know how stressing it is when ur pc is worse then a snail ;).

Maybe . But im not sure . I think it's because if you have too much data on your computer . The things you save on there . It's maybe slowing things down . The same thing happend to my computer and I had to delete somethings. But if it still slow . Let someone have a look at it . That knows alot about computers. They'll know.

Well in practically all groups, your web is actually plugged into a few field on or close your road. When each person plugged into that field attempt to max out their web connections you can also enjoy a few slower web. As on your laptop, it does have some thing to do with it. Your internet browser has to load, and your laptop runs it. Viruses too can gradual down your laptop and take in plenty of your web connection, making it seem gradual

Maybe it has a virus, trojan or some other malicious software on it. It could be that is clogged with the software that is installed on your computer but you don't have enough RAM memory.
