surging, stalling, low or high idle, check engine lamp on. and its called a throttle position sensor or tps.

I take it you mean, a throttle position sensor. A bad throttle position sensor can cause harsh shifting in transmission and can cause the car to run sluggish. what's your symptoms?
I've got a 99 firebird i'm working on now with a TPS problem.
