When the British, hundreds of years ago, were taking over parts of Africa,Asia etc it was the accepted behaviour in those days..Even within Africa etc the stronger tribes enslaved the weaker tribes and I believe a certain amount of cannibalism went on. France,Holland,Belgium,Spain Portugal and Germany were also involved in colonising but we seemed to do it best. Probably because we were an island and therefore had the strongest navy.
Now,rightfully, these lands have been given self-government but I often wonder, if Africa had been completely ignored by the European explorers would it still be occupied by primitive tribes.
Perhaps certain black politicians when they criticise this country's history should think about that.

French, Spanish, Portuguese were all just as bad as the English, but to be truthful we were the best at invading and populating other countries. IN fact we made it a past time.

I'm proud of the british colony and what it stood for, but not so much for the way it was done.

The other three mentioned above however were just as ruthless. How do you think South America was populated? A mixture of Portuguese and Spanish!

I don't like the fact that England once did colonize practically the whole planet, with very little understanding of what the cultures they took over were really about, but I think the country has gone past that. Any country that gets too big and powerful will turn to colonisation. Just out of curiosity, shouldn't you be more angry with Spain?

I am American and I view England as our allies in times of war and peace. Since I do not live in England I cant make a judgment as to their politics,or what I have only read in History books. They conquered many in their quest for land, and as with all winners they may have made a few bad moves but as far as I'm concerned as an American,we are friends and allies, and we will stand together against tyranny.Your English is just fine. :)
And we didn't steal the land from the
Native Americans we
took it,we conquered ,we didn't steal it,my ancestors fought and died to take the land and to hold it .That's what to conquer means.Get over it Its history .

No England did not steal islands all over the world, but helped the people who lived on these islands. Why would we get angry about you having an opinion?. We live in a democracy here in The United Kingdom where people are allowed to speak they're minds with out fear of they're lives.

It is very good to talk to you and no your English does not suck, in fact it is fine.

Sorry to have to tell you but Bush was not born in the UK, he was born in America.

And I am proud that the United kingdom is my place of birth and my homeland.

Best wishes to you and keeping on writing to us.

I'm Welsh not English but yeah I think England is cool. Thanks. They have every right to be proud of their country.

As for "stealing" islands - my God!!! Do you REALLY think England is the only country that has "stolen" land from other people?!??? I'm astounded at your ignorance!! You desperately need to read up on world history!!!! Everyone was doing it 200 years ago! What about the white settlers who settled in America - who did they "steal" that off? What about the French Colonies, the Belgian Colonies . . . .You poor thing, you obviously have nothing to educate you but badly researched Hollywood films. How sad to be so utterly ignorant. I feel for you in your plight.

Well as you say, your opinion.
We conquered many countries as we built our British Empire (we English did not do it alone!). We have returned many of these countries to the people of those lands and we remain on good terms with them, that's why we have a British Commonwealth of Nations instead of the British Empire. Our Imperial Days are now over as all Empires Rise and Fall !
