That is one way, or some computer repair shops will take it off your hands to strip the parts.

I would say to do that, even put a sign on it, free & working or something like that. Just make sure it is visible.

I have picked up a few pc's from the garbage, the last one being yesterday. All but 2 worked. The others I stripped for parts.

Trust me, someone will most likely take it.

If nobody takes it off your curb, you can donate it to goodwill, or lastly, ship it to me, I can find someone to use it.

Offer it to a local school, church, or comminuty group (Lions, Boy Scouts, community theater, etc.)

If you DO decide to just put it on the curb, REMOVE THE HARD DRIVE first, take a hammer, and totally smash the drive and dispose of it separately. (Or at least download a har drive wiping program and run it to destroy the information on it.) This will prevent someone from picking up the computer and stealing you information from it.

No, don't throw it outside, it is a waste and it is illegal. Technically you could get in trouble. Just call The Salvation Army. You don't even have to take it. They will come and pick it up from you and then you can even get a reciept for the charity and then claim it as an exemption when you file your taxes.
