My dad died suddenly, just days before Christmas. I despise the holidays. The only thing about it that makes me happy is that it only comes once a year.

EVERYTHING! The people, the feeling, the tree, the presents, making the cake, the planning, buying presents, Father Christmas, my family, the fact that I get to celebrate twice cos my hubby is German and they celebrate on Christmas Eve, getting presents, my doggies, the relaxation ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING!

However, my hubby however doesn't really like christmas so has to put up with me bounding around like a maniac for about 4 months beforehand...

EDIT: Just saw this morning - Harrods and Selfridges have opened their christmas department - WHOOOHOOOOO!

not a lot anymore - I am getting too old and too fed up with the commercialisation and early start to Christmas. Some people in our area put their decorations up in October!!!! And as for the shops, come the end of August there they go.

Saying that though, I have started my Xmas cake. Double standars I know, but I have to keep the family happy. I guess that is what it is all about nowadays.

The worrying and scrimping to pay for it all,the two hour queue to pay for your shopping, the moment you realise you've forgotten someones prezzie at 4.01pm on xmas eve, trying to shove a 18lb turkey into a single oven[after battling to find a tin foil roll big enough first] and then waiting for 6 hours while it cooks, staying up till 3am xmas day wrapping, the rows when the ex comes over to see the kids, the noise, fighting and screaming of 3 kids maxed up on pepsi and chocolate, the crappy film thats on every year ...and not forgetting the realization that you've spent so much, you'll be living on leftover crackers for the next month!!Christmas..i love it!!!

Everything, but mostly just seeing all my family together... a lot of my family is screwed up, but atleast for one night (Christmas Eve) or day (actual Christmas) we put aside the things in our past and enjoy eachother's company. That's my favorite thing.

I love thinking about childhood and when we were together as a proper family. Now my parents arn't here anymore, I lost my mum last year, and didn't know how to handle it cause I had to enjoy it for my kids sake. Christmas is for my kids now, and for me to remember my special time with my memories

Everyone seems to get into the "spirit," even though that involves mostly spending money. I love the lights, the specials, the music, and the feeling of giving.
