I recommend McAfee Security Suite...everything on it :)

This is what I do to protect my computer:
1> Scan your computer for spyware/adware using a free software from Microsoft called Windows Defender: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

> You can download a FREE antivirus software:
http://www.grisoft.com/doc/Programs/lng/us/tpl/tpl01

> You can buy Webroot Spy Sweeper here, it's very nice, safe and very up-to-date:
http://www.webroot.com/land/freescan-3000.php?rc=4929&ac=5190853

> MSN Toolbar:
http://toolbar.live.com/?mkt=en-us

> Use Windows Update to make sure you have the latest security updates: http://www.windowsupdate.com

> You can download the latest version of Internet Explorer, it's the new version, fast, clean and secure:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx?mg_ID=10010

Good luck and I hope these solutions solve your problem, if you need more extra help, contact me :)

My first warning BE CAREFUL.

There ARE a few free ones that actually work and there are TONS of free ones that you might actually consider to be spyware themselves. So you have to be careful about what you download.

My recommendations is the Microsoft Windows Defender application. It's free and works well. You can download it here...

The Microsoft tool does a great job of preventing infection, but isn't the best tool for repairing your PC if it's already infected. You may have to get some other Spyware remover that you'll actually have to purchase to do that.

Good luck friend!

The following anti-spyware apps that are free (and good) :

AdAware SE
Spybot Serach & Destroy
Spyware Blaster
Spyware Guard

Anything other than these that are free, might not be so 'legitimate' Meaning they will find a lot of false positives, or they'll do a scan, pretend to find something and then ask you to pay to remove them. Stay away from them.

There are other legitimate scanners that are good, but they are not free.

i am glad to see another firefox user,i switched 3 months ago and have never looked back
for real time protection you need to download a program called spyware blaster(http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html),this program is designed for internet explore and firefox and has a sheild for firefox ,blocking active x installs
the program does not have a scanner though,it just stops spyware from installing in the first place, for scanning a program called "ewido" anti-spyware(http://www.ewido.net/en/),this is a very good scanner which works well with spyware blaster, and combining to give you a good all round spyware protection package
a good anti-virus program to try is avast(http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html),i have used avg and found avast much better in all departments, and avast uses very little memory,so leaving your p.c free to run programs and applications
i can understand your reservations about adaware, but not about spybot,i know the immunization feature dosent work in firefox but you can use advanced feature and look in tools and use the tea time feature, this works with firefox and will stop any installation of malicous code to the registry, the only real security problem with firefox is tracking cookies, but you can set them in tools in firefox to be deleted when you exit the browser
have you found firefox faster than internet explorer,i have ....about twice as fast
good luck

spyware blaster. You will still need to run spybot or something to remove the crap that is already on your system, spyware blaster will keep some of it from coming in in real time. NO SPYWARE DETECTION WILL KEEP ALL SPYWARE OUT! If you are a user of peer to peer file sharing sites like limewire, bearsheare, etc this or anything else wont fully protect your system! When you use these sites you are asking for trouble, consider that the files you download come from other peoples computers! God knows what they are infested with! The absolute BEST protection is YOU!

Hi, spyware is a disgusting and infamous kind of virus. perhaps you can try Norton and Mcafee to remove the virus. but you need to pay for the software.

i also recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar, which can disable the virus, becasue the virus can only run on IE.

firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and spyware, adware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

download firefox for free:

Best Wishes && Good Luck!

I've tried a lot of the free antispyware downloads but at the mo I use Spybot Search & Destroy & superantispyware.

As you dont want spybot Id strongly recommend superantispyware - it locates, quarantines & deletes all THREATS - not just actual infections.

You can download the latest version of Mozilla Firefox from here http://bitly.com/1jBm0OB

Mozilla Firefox is one of the world's most popular web browsers and, to me, it's the best.

If you already have Zone Alarm, then you should sign up for their anti-spyware.
I use it in combination with the anti-spyware provided by my internet provider and have had 0 problems.
