you can either mig or tig weld aluminum, if you mig it you MUST use aluminum wire. I do this on a daily basis and it works very well

"Fusion welding" with ordinary methods is impossible for two reasons 1) the the large difference between the melting points of steel and aluminum. 2) the formation of brittle intermetalic compounds in the dilution area in the weld zone. "Welding" is only possible using the advanced solid-state methods of Friction Welding or Explosion Welding. "Soldering" however, is fairly easy using a number of soldering alloys, most commonly tin-zinc "hard solders." However there are some practical problems with this. If the joint is exposed to moisture, severe electrochemical corrosion of the aluminum will result, due to aluminum having a higher oxidation potential than steel. Also, the higher thermal expansion of aluminum can lead to cracks. The most common application for soldering steel to aluminum is for electrical equipment and heat sinks. Soldering and/or brazing can be used to join most metals to most other metals. Whether or not it's practical to do so based on the circumstances, is a whole different question.

Aluminum is difficult to weld anyway, no steel aluminum only. But, depending on what you are trying to do i.e. fix a small crack, or weld a low stress joint, you can TIG it without using fill and just fuse the joint together. But, only if it there is very little stress that will ever be applied to the joint.

I don't think you can weld Aluminium. It doesn't mix with any alloy, so you can't even use a common alloy steel welding rod.

No you can't. Aluminum is difficult to weld and the very fact that your posting this question indicates you should take it to someone who has done it before.

Use aluminum, and a inert gas MiG weld or it will splatter and could cause you to get hurt .

Steel won't work. You must use aluminium or mig

You need a special welding/arc machine. No "aluminun rods."

Has to be alu. with a mig or tig welder. Look at LONGSHANXXX.COM to see tons of kustoms and fabrication. The movie BACK FROM THE DEAD is about my boyfriend buildind a roadster p/u - buy it on ebay if you are into metal work.
