Do you think it would be easier to open up a coffee shop than to open a pizzeria? Thanks...?

I have a major interest in opening a business, but undecided yet on what to do business in...Any advice?

I plan on decorating it with astronomy and space memorabilia...

astronaut autographed photos and pictures of space...Like Applebees

Pros of pizzeria: wouldn't have to open early in the morning, less expensive inventory
Cons of pizzeria: more equipment, have to open late at night, more employees, more perishable food, could be a lot of competition
Pros of coffee shop: less equipment/space needed, less spoilage, fewer employees, not open late
Cons of coffee shop: have to open very early in the morning, more expensive inventory, LOTS of competition

You REALLY have to do your homework to find out what type of business would make a better profit margin. Pizza raw materials don't seem very expensive, but have a short shelf life. Coffee lasts a long time, but is more expensive, and the paper goods inventory is complicated. What about the retail space - location is everything! How is the landlord and the lease? Have other restaurants tried and failed in the same spot? What about zoning - would you have to make improvements or construction on the space?

You've got to lay it all out and come up with a bottom line figure in order to make the most intelligent decision. Don't invest money in a business because it would seem like "fun." Might as well take it to Vegas and throw it all down on Red!

go with the coffee shop but serve gourmet coffee such as lattes iced latte's - not just plain coffee (that's the problem with a whole lot of coffee shops out there)
and definitely don't do the pizza shop because there are so many of them already out there that being the new guy out there,it could be hard to compete with those already established
