Elephants are very intelligent animals. They have a natural instinct to roam free and live as they were meant to. So, I believe they are more aware of just how horrible their lives are in captivity. Being placed in zoos is not easy on them at all. Worse yet is being in a circus. They are kept in trucks while traveling. They are made to do tricks and the training is constant. Then what is their only relief? Being put in a small pen with food.
I don't blame them for going crazy. They will either have their spirit totally broken or decide to TRY to find freedom, resulting in humans being hurt if they get in the way. I don't think they want to hurt people, they are just trying to get FREEDOM!
They belong where they were meant to live, enjoying their fellow elephants without humans bothering them.
Wild animals are not on this earth to entertain humans.. Let them live and we can enjoy the videos or go see them from a safe place in their own environment.

I saw a special on this. Mostly male elephants do this because of the changes their bodies are going through. They feel intense pain and anger during this state ( I forgot what the term was). They attack to relieve their stress. It has nothing to do with humans at all.

I was going to type a big long animal cruelty post but a couple people beat me to it. I second them. Elephants should not be kept in the circus and/or confined.

I don't support circuses with live animals.

the simple reason is this: elephants are captured from their natural habitat and caged.while they may not be mistreated, they also feel HOMESICK..thats the reason they go crazy...if you remember the story of Mr.RUDYARD KIPLING , a writer, an elephant was about to be killed for going berserk, he went inside his cage and started talking to the elephant in its native language ,the one the elephant used to hear when it was young, and it calmed down...from that time on it became gentle again...so the answer is THEY ALSO BECOME HOMESICK, just like us

I think it is that they are being mistreated. They are very smart. I feel awful that they are kept and used as they are. Very sad.
