I'm a teacher, so I may be able to help you with this one. First of all, you probably don't want to be a teacher's pet, because usually the rest of the students won't appreciate that. A good teacher should not really show favoritism, and if he or she does, it is usually something about that kid that reminds him of either himself at that age or something similar, that you cannot control or try for.
What you just need to do is be a good hard worker. You need to be respectful, polite and put your best foot forward. If you aren't feeling well one day, tell the teacher ahead of time so he or she understands why you may not be your usual self that day. Ask questions when you don't understand something, and don't be afraid to admit that. Be helpful to your fellow classmates, and don't be a tattle tale. And last of all, appreciating all your teacher does for you with a shiny apple or package of dry erase markers just can't hurt!
Good luck in your new school year!
And don't be nervous! Be yourself!!!!

sweetie, becoming the teacher's pet won't make matters any better. If you have issues at home or with other students, etc find a teacher or administrator at your school and speak to them. Better yet, contact the guidance counselor. They can help you with problems and work with you and your teachers to get you back on track. Once you feel better about yourself you will find that problems don't seem so huge.

Sleep with your teacher! You'll be a shoe-in! Just kidding! Ask a lot of questions and ask for advice. Behave in class and always take the teacher's side. Never cut the teacher off when he/she is talking. Dress appropriately. Turn in work on time and get good grades. Did I forget anything...? I probably did, but you'll be on the right path if you follow these rules.

If it's grades, study as hard as you can and if it doesn't help, talk to your teacher, let her know you're trying and having problems. Also, tell your counselor, that way, even if your teacher has it out for you, the school will know you're doing your best if you ask for help.

Volunteer to help the teacher with tasks, such as passing out tests, cleaning and organizing bookshelves, etc. Making copies, take stuff to the office, etc. That is what my friend and I would do in 5th grade and it worked :)
