There is really no set age when you HAVE to. When it becomes a hazard, like they are trying to climb out, then it is time to switch them. My son will be 2 on Thurs and we have a twin bed with a side rail that he will be switching to in Sept, because I have another baby on the way in Dec and I want him to get used to the twin bed before the baby starts to use it so he doesn't feel like he is being forced out.

I moved my son from his crib when he was 9.5 months b/c he was already walking and climbing out of his crib. I was scared he would get hurt. We moved him to his twin bed when he was about 1.5 yrs. b/c he is really tall and it seemed like a better fit for him. When we moved him from the crib we put the ocean thing onto his headboard of the toddler bed so he would feel more at home in it. He never had any problems with it at all. Oh to keep your child from rolling out either put a folded up comforter (like full size) on the floor beside his bed or put twin rails on it. It works wonderfully.

Around 2.5-3 years old. But, it's very age dependent. If the child starts climbing and it's dangerous, that's the time to move them.

Anyway, my son, despite being pretty active, was safe enough in the crib. But, he was only in a toddler bed for a few months. Then he insisted on being in a twin bed...like his older brother.

I would say 2 or 3. When the thing can start trying to get out of the crib it's time to get a big boy bed. Hope that helped.

My daughter is 17 months and we had to convert her crib. She can climb out of the crib (even on the lowest mattress setting) and she fell a couple of times. She tend to sleep better now that she knows she can come into our room is she's scared. We all sleep much better.

But, every child is different. Some don't go until after two.

When our son was standing in crib and jumping and that was age 14 months. We put him in a twin bed and put a bed rail up which we still use today at his age of near 4 yrs old and it is wonderful. I didnt see using a toddler bed as they grow too fast and out of them so the twin bed he still uses today at age 4 :). He has never slept with us and has no sleeping in his own bed issues because of that. Thanks for asking! Sure brings back memories!!

When they could hop out. So with my kids that was 23 months, 18 months, 24 months, and 20 months. I personally stayed in my crib until 3 1/2!

When he tried to climb out!! About 20 months. And we never had a toddler bed - he wanted a regular 'big boy' bed. So we saved money by only having to buy a twin bed.

I waited until my daughter started climbing out of her crib. She was 2 1/2 and I had another baby on the way as well so it was good timing ... needed the crib for new baby :)
My daughter did very well with it from day one ! Good luck to you
