they feel like cramps?... they're caused by the decrease of the blood supply to your endometrium... causing an ischaemic pain

It depends on the person. Mine have always been pretty bad, and they just feel like dull, throbbing pelvic pain. If you're having really awful cramps, visit the OB/GYN. It's usually not serious, but it can be a pain in the butt, especially if you have an ongoing condition, such as endometriosis. Birth control pills can provide relief, but they aren't guaranteed to help, and they're looked at as a temporary solution. You just kind of have to deal...I find naproxen sodium (Aleve) works best for me, ibuprofen is also supposed to be good.
Usually cramps get better after you've been pregnant once, but I don't know how old you are, and I am NOT suggesting that as a solution. :)

Well, it is possible to confuse them with stomach cramps, but generally they are lower than your usual tummy cramps. For me, they usually are more like someone is pinching things or tightening them.
If you are wondering if you are getting cramps prior to the first time you get your period, I don't suppose there is anyway to know for sure, but you can just sort of be prepared that this might be happening (carry a pad in your purse, for example). You may feel some other signs like a little bit of moodiness and maybe notice your tummy area a bit more poofy. You will likely have noticed some other signs of puberty really developing as well. Good luck!
Take care!
