I always prefer and recommend Carefresh. It's a paper based bedding, a little more expensive, but with a ton of rats and mice I find it to be the best when it comes to odour and absorbing. It also comes in cool colours now haha. (I just use Carefresh "Ultra" it's white).
We also use normal Carefresh for the Rats and Guinea Pigs at the Petsmart I work at, but Aspen for all of the others. For mice and rats I stay away from wood beddings because those rodents are very prone to respiratory problems, however I've heard and read that Aspen is better than ceder, pine, and sawdust. The others are more oily and dusty from my experience.
For guinea pigs Aspen is just fine, just make sure you change it at least weekly and all of that good stuff :D

Yes, aspen should be just fine. I use it for my hamster and rabbit and they don't seem to have any problems with it. Pine and cedar have been known to cause respiratory problems in small animals, so aspen is probably the best kind of shavings. I also use carefresh sometimes because it absorbs odors better and its easier to clean up.

Yes, Some claim that the more harsh woods are unsafe for them (pine, cedar, etc.) When we had Guinea Pigs we used cedar and we found no health problems but a Vet recently told me aspen is safe for any animal. (recently acquired a rabbit) so just passing on what I just learned myself. Good Luck!!

I personally have never used aspen - but I also have never heard anything bad about it. Never use ceder it does kill - I had 10 die at one time due to a mistaken purchase of ceder shavings. I use white pine or corn cob. Good Luck!

Yes, I have used it. Avoid cedar and sawdust type bedding which are dusty...piggies will sneeze and I had some who were allergic. I liked Carefresh best but yes, you can use aspen.
