It is commonly known as an assassin bug. They belong to the order Hemiptera which include all the true bugs, or those the stink bugs.
These insects are highly predatory and are quite common in warm regions of the world. They can fly and can bite as well, quite painfully I might add....I know this from expereince.
They actually make cool pets though, you can feed them crickets, they are really neat.
They use their pointed Beak-like mouthpart to inject paralyzing venom into their prey, the beak is commonly called a stylet, it is because they possess this that they can be identified easily as bugs.
Good find! nice photos by the way!
here are some cool pictures, of other species

I've always called them potato bugs, but I doubt that's the correct name. I don't think it's a stink bug, though. We have those all over the place here and it doesn't look anything like it.

We also call those stink bugs in my area. Does it smell really bad when squished? They don't bite people but I don't know if they are harmful to plants.

Depends on how big it is. If it's larger it could be a roach of some sort.
