From a purely etymological viewpoint, it derives from the word 'pusillanimous' which means meek or without a backbone. Somewhere along the way, it was bastardized to refer to a woman's privates.

look up "vagina" in the wikipedia. that's it. Only the word you used is slang, not proper english (and with a typing mistake)
