I posted yesterday about the engine not reving past 2500 RPMs, a few of you suggested it is the fuel system, but I forgot to mention the check engine light being on, could the fuel filter being clogged make this happen

A clogged fuel filter can cause the check engine light to come on, it will usually give you a code that says 'bank 1 and bank 2 lean', meaning it's not getting enough gas, and it might also give you a multiple cylinder misfire code.

Yes. That light can come on if the fuel CAP is bad! With all the restrictions on emissions in the U.S., almost anything related to the fuel system can cause that light to go on. Some auto parts stores have scanners and will plug into your car, read the code, and tell you what's wrong for free (hoping you'll buy the parts there). I know Auto Zone in my area does it. Might be wise to do before buying a filter.

A bad fuel filter can trip the check engine light. Then again, so can a loose fuel cap. But before you jump to conclusions of what the check engine light could be, go to Autozone and ask them to hook up the OBD scanner. It will shoot you a code number.

No, take your car up to autozone, murrays, etc, and have the codes run to see what the problem is.
