I understand that it is a chromosome problem, but in human terms (non-medical) can someone please explain to me the main reason for miscarriages? I have miscarried twice before I hit the 6 week mark. The last one was this weekend and I am just having trouble understanding why. Yes, I will be seeing the doctor

First off, I'm very sorry for your loss. I miscarried my first baby last year at week 8 and I've been trying for a year now with no success so I can understand your pain and frustration. Unfortunately, there are too many reasons (besides chromosonal abnormality) for miscarriages. For my miscarriage, I was given the typical chromosonal abnormality reason, too. After the miscarriage, the OB doctor decided to put me on Clomid after I tried to conceive naturally for over 6 months without success. I had an ultrasound done of my uterus prior to taking Clomid and found out that my uterine lining was thin (from years of using BC Pills) and my progestrone level was low due to my age (I'm 37 yrs old). They were mostlikely the reasons for my miscarriage and unfortunately, was simply preventable had my progesterone level been checked within my first OB visits and been given a prescription for daily progesterone pills. It is too bad that they won't consider miscarrying a problem unless you miscarry 3 times or more (unless you're over 35 yrs old like me). I had to do a lot of reading and asked many questions after my miscarriage to try to understand all this. All in all, I found out that I'm the one who has to force the OB/Gyn's office to seriously look into why it happened and also what to do to help me get pregnant again and keep that pregnancy. There are many books out there to help you understand (I've read many of them) but nothing will make the pain go away. And for that I am truly sorry. I hope you never give up though!

There are so many reasons for miscarriages, that it would be tough to pinpoint without a doctor's evaluation. I had 5 miscarriages due to an elevated prolactin level. My friend had a miscarriage due to progesterone level difficulties. Sometimes it is a genetic flaw. There are so many reasons and a good infertility specialist can figure out why and help you get pregnant. Good luck and I am so sorry for your loss!

You will need to see a fertility doctor if you miscarry 3 times in a row. Basically a miscarrige from what I know is that the fetus doesn't grow properly and would not be able to survive if it were to go to full term. Goodluck and sorry for your loss's
