It is a good idea if you don't want to be respected by people outside of the punk world, which is most of the population. I have wanted to do things like that several times, but never did. I was once told that a person should never do something that they wouldn't want their own kid to do. I don't have any kids yet either, but any visible piercing will more than likely hurt you later in life.

Ask yourself why you want to get your face pierced? If you can answer yourself truthfully, and look yourself in the mirror with pride, then you should get it pierced. In the long run, it is 100% up to you. Good Luck with your decision.

That's one of a few areas that's very prone to getting serious infections (another is the tongue).

Also: Have you researched how much of a scar will be left when-and-if you get tired of that piercing? (That's something that I don't know--otherwise, I'd give you the answer.) That's another thing to consider when you get anything pierced.

Another thing to consider is how potential employers might react to "unusual" piercings (that goes for tattoos, too). If you think that it might keep you from getting good jobs once you're 18 years old (and an adult and need to support yourself), then don't do it.

Not really, unless it's something YOU really want. Don't do it for attention or to irritate your parents, you'll only regret it later. And keep in mind most places don't employ people with facial peircings, and eventually you'll probably take that out. The hole will not go away. If you absolutely need to get something peirced, try putting another hole in your ear, first. I'd even peirce a nipple before a face. No one's face needs to be scarred voluntarily.

If you are a first timer with body art then go with a piercing (rather then a tattoo) after it heals and you still don't like it you can get rid of it with no scarring. Try everything once I always say.

NOPE! Cuz when you want a 'real job', the one that gives you health insurance, pays the rent, gets you cool vacations, I won't hire you with a pierced lip!

Only if you aren't planning on working in mainstream corporate America. Professional offices don't do to well with people who have piercings in other places viewed except ears.

I know someone with their lip pierced and the backing of the stud ruined her teeth by rubbing on them. So....I'd have to say don't.

No. You would get an infection and then the surgeon would have to remove your whole lips.

Yuck. What if your bf has a tongue ring and then while your frenching, you get stuck together? EEEWW. Plus, lip rings look king of nasty.
