i had an old HP computer and i got a new one 2 year ago that was DELL so before i threw the HP one (it didnt work) away i ttok out the RAM and the HARD-DRIVE and the dvd disk drive (because my dell didnt have dvd player. so my dell has 128mb and the hard drive had 28gb but the hp harddrive had 40gb so i put the hard-drive and dvdplayer from the hp computer on my dell and it worked perfect but i could install the RAM the stick was bigger than the outlet to were its soppese to be it was much of a difference but it wouldnt fit i tried all the positions and nothign worked so why this this happen?

RAM comes in 184 and 224 pin sizes and DDR or DDR2 and different types within those. To figure out the RAM you need to order for your new computer go to http://www.kingston.com/ and enter your type of computer and then it will tell you what kind of RAM it uses. Then you can order the RAM from http://www.newegg.com or http://www.ZipZoomFly.com

And to answer your harddrive question, it is not the size of harddrive, when figuring in RAM, it is the size slot, and the type ram you need. Harddrive problem is irrelevant....

that is in fact due to a difference in the type of RAM, there is SDIMM, DDR, etc...
