I'm trying to keep the compressor on to add more refrigerant

The accumulator is a big can in the low pressure side of the system. It is usually near the firewall and about 4" in diameter and 10-12" tall. There will be a switch in the lower portion of it with two wires coming out of it.

right next to the hood hinge on the passenger side, jump the wires but also look and see if its an electronic control panel for the ac/heat. it might need to be reset since the freon was low

If it isn't on the big silver thing on the passenger side of the firewall, then it should be pretty darned close on that fat A/C line.
