My reunion is coming soon and I am very nervous about attending. Should I go? I would like to see a few people, but some nasty people will be there and I am afraid they will still be immature and make comments about me. I know I won't stoop to their level, but I will still be hurt. Do I even bother going?

OMG YES. I just planned my 20 year HS reunion. I grew up in rural KY - and am gay. In HS it was widely known I was gay and while life was not terrible it could have been better. However, 20 years on the outside turned me into a very confidant and secure person - who also happens to be gay. I set up the entire reunion and about 90% of the class came - we had a great time. I had people bring back their cheerleading, football, band, FFA outfits and other things like that and we put it around the room. We showed a DVD of graduation night and had a cap and gown around that - played tapes of the football team, had a cheerleader booth with pom-poms, a DJ...at one point in the night I ended up putting on THE JOCK of the HS's football jersey and he carried me around the room while everyone cheered and laughed. At midnight when the party ended we went to the lounge in the hotel and stayed there until 2am - then 20 oir so people came back to my room and we all swigged off a bottle of Jack Daniels. The entire night was so much fun - and the one or two people that had been jerks in HS really had grown up - heck we all had. I danced with all the cheerleaders and most of their husbands. It was liberating!

Go and be yourself and catch up with old friends!

Why wouldn't you go? People grow up and change. And hey, you'll get to laugh at all the others who constantly ridiculed you as you see how their lives have become total failures.
