He tugs on his ear but it's not red, he's not running a fever, and he doesn't seem uncomfortable when you feed him or lay him down?
I really don't think it's an ear infection, i've seen them plenty of times to know, so what else could it be?

Okay, I have to add, that before he was born he always had his hand on his ear. I actually had to have a c-section because that's where his hand stayed before delivery.

He's probably teething. Give him some Tylenol, rub his gums with Baby Orajel and give him a cold washcloth to chew on . . . he'll be just fine.

Good luck!

Just watch for a fever what ever you do. He may just like his ears. Or if you think he could be teething (which could happen at this age but not often) some babies pull on ears when their gums are bugging them. If he gets fussy you can give him a little bit of baby Tylenol. It will help him feel better. You probably already know this, but most doctors will not see the baby unless it's got a fever, has a discharge coming from the ear, or is crying uncontrollably.

I just read an article in a recent edition of Parenting magazine. This can be a sign of a tooth coming in. My 6 month old has been doing this for the past few weeks and guess what....? He had 1 tooth break through last week and the 2nd one started yesterday. May not be related, but he has never been one to tug on his ears. When he is tired, he rubs his nose and eyes a lot. Check his gums and see if you can feel or see anything starting to come in & of course, ask your doctor.

....an ear infection...
:P

Tugging at the are usually is a sing that something is bothering him in there. Just b/c you can't see the problem doesn't mean it doesn't exist and some kids don't run a fever with an ear infection. My niece was tugging on her ear for a week w/o a fever and it turned out she need shunts the infection was so bad. Maybe he shoved something in there.

Might still be an ear infection. Check with your doctor just in case. My child use to be plagued with ear infections and never complained. Sometimes he would have a fever but lots of time not. When I would take him for his routine check up the doctor would look at his ears and tell to my surprise he had a mild case of ear infection.

Maybe that ear is just more sensitive. Maybe he cannot hear as well out of that ear? Maybe it is an ear infection as sometimes they are in disguise. Try discussing this with your baby's doctor to see what could be causing this? When in doubt best to call the Doc! Good Luck!

It might just be that he's found his ear. Remember, he's experiencing everyhting for the first time. When our daughter finds something new, she fixates on it for a bit. For example, when she found that she could blow raspberries, it was all she did! After a while it wasn't so novel and she started talking as she had before (with a few raspberries thrown in for good measure). I believe critter (our daughter) was about 5 months old when she found her ears, and everybody else's.

I wouldn't worry much aboubt it unless he seems uncomfortable as you said.

Good luck!

Take him to the doctors, young children with a fever can have seizures due to it,ear infections do cause fever, you never know unless you go.

Almost defiinitely teething. Baby Tylenol and orajel is good. Also call dr if he seems to be getting worse. Also give him some cold teething toys or some frozen wet washcloths.

My daughter pulled at her ear a lot when she was teething.

It could just be a baby discovering his ears and liking to play with them. If he's not in pain and there's no fever I wouldn't worry about it.
