I have used drano in the past & it works for about 5 months but then clogs again. Is there a better way to clean it?

We had the same problem and called a plumber. He used a snake to remove the clog. However, he said next time we can do it ourselves. You can get a snake for around $10. You just feed it through the pipes and wind it up till it is in, and then pull it back out.
P.S. I'm not talking about a real snake, but a tool called a snake.

The first thing I check is to see if there is hair in the drain that can be easily removed. You could also try snaking it, but if this is a recurring problem, I suggest calling a plumber or roto-router (sp?). Make sure you call and get quotes.

Try a 2 big tablespoons of baking soda, then pour 1/4 cup portions of vinegar, it will foam up, repeat, you may want to plunge afer each time.

Also get a drain catcher for hair, any hardware store

Clone is right. The mechanical approach is best. Chemicals are bad. Hand snake works great and saves a lot of money in plumber bills.
