Astrology, good or bad?

Question

My family tell me that astronomy is one of the many tools of the devil, and that astronomists are just a bunch of money-hungry publicity seekers. However, I think that it's interesting, I'm not going to be an astrologist though or anything, I just think it's cool. Help me...

yes, I know I mixed up astrology and astronomy, just answer the d*** question...

ASTROLOGY is the belief that the stars can influence your life here on earth.

ASTRONOMY is the study of stars and stellar evolution of the universe.

ASTROLOGY is bunk, con artists and people who lie for a living. Yes, it is indeed a tool of satan- this is scriptual.

ASTRONOMY is mostly hard core physics mathematics and has the blessing of most religious leaders including the Pope.

Astrology, or trying to predict the future based upon the positions of celestial bodies, has absolutely no basis in science and your family are right when they say that those who practice astrology are a bunch of money grabbers. That said it's got nothing to do with the devil either (who incidentally, also has no basis in science). It's not really a matter of astrology being good or bad. It's just a waste of everyone's time reading this rubbish. You would be far better off looking into something else that's cool but has some basis in reality otherwise you're just wasting your inqusitive mind on so much trash.

Astronomy, on the other hand is a real science that deals with what we see in the night sky. e.g. stars and galaxies. It may not tell us much about our personal futures but it might help us to understand where you are in the universe - though not particularly cool.

Astrology is considered an ancient art of reading the future. It maintains that our future is written in the stars and planetary movements. It's earliest record is found in Babylon, therefore Christian religions oppose any delving into astrology because of it's pagan origin. Though I agree with that, I have another reason that might interest you. Each civilization has looked up at the stars and noted the movements they saw. Sailors used them to navigate. Farmers used them to know when to plant and harvest their crops. So a study of the stars or astronomy and the way it has influenced history is fascinating. But each civilization has had religious zealots who tried to control and influence those around them and often they used omens and predictions of the future, thus the development of astrology. If you look at the zodiac signs around the world you will find that they are all different and each sign means different things. In North America if you were born in August you're a Leo and are supposed to have a certain personality. In China it's not the month you were born in, it's the year you were born in that determines your personality. So I'm a Leo here and a rabbit in China and both of them have different traits and futures, which should I believe? I'll tell you! I am the master of my life as you should be of yours. Imagine your mother telling you that you couldn't date or marry someone because of their astrological sign. Or getting pregnant at a certain time to ensure that your child is born in the right year so they will have the right personal qualities. Don't allow some supermarket check-out book or daily news column decide who you are, how you should act or who you should marry. Be your own person, study, question and "hold fast to that which is true".

Astrology is the belief that stars influence your life. Astronomy is a science. Astronomy rocks! I'm not sure about astrology. I don 't really believe in horoscopes and all that stuff, but stars do influence your life. If our star, the sun, blows up, we'll be dead. If a meteor or an asteroid hits Earth dead, probably. That's astronomy.

my point: Astronomy: Rocks. Astrology: fake.

There is a practical use for astrology, but you'd have to be a radiologist that knows what kind of radiation comes from every single star in the sky and what affect each radiation has on every person on Earth. Now, mabye observation of the people instead of the stars would be equally informative, but then again, mabye it wouldn't.

At any rate, I don't care how complex they try to make the astrology "process", it's all a bunch of crap if they don't acknowledge these simple facts.

Astronomy is the scientific study of the celestial bodies of all types. It cannot be bad because science is not a moral pursuit. It is factual gathering in support of hypotheses as to how the universe works. Pure simple and noble.

Astrology is just meaningless ramble that may be good, bad or evil. It is not relevant to science.

And believe me, astronomers aren't in it for the publicity or the money... heck, you can't even afford to support a modest crack habit let alone a full-on binge.

Some of the things that I have learned about astronomy have really changed my perspective on things. For example, it takes almost 8 minutes for light from the sun to reach Earth it's so far away, but to reach out to the orbit of say Neptune or Uranus takes almost a full 24 hours. Sure makes you feel humble.

But anyway, no, they have nothing to do with the devil, astronomers are just guys who went to school for a lot of mathematics and like to measure things up in the sky...

Some people do not know how to broaden their minds,even though they are college grads,this only makes a person ready for the work force ,not livin' Apparently they have no imagination ,I am a concerned parent myself,but not close minded,i wish you luck in whatever you do,i also hope you're parents will help or contribute,instead of pushing you away from what you want to do,no matter if they think it is ridiculous.?

The problem with astrology is when people begin to take it seriously and allow it to dictate the way they live their lives. I can't see where reading one's horoscope in a newspaper could be detrimental, if just for the hell of it.
