I'll tell you in a very calm, nice way why I like rock better than rap. Rock has a voice that can make you feel what the singer feels. It makes you hurt and love and scream all at the same time and it has the power to make you do anything it wants you to do. Rap doesn't move me the way that rock does. When I hear it, all I hear is the lyrics but I don't feel anything at all. Some hip hop songs are great, though. For example, "1 Thing" by Amerie is amazing. But rap, to me, is just a lot of words put together and said on the spot. Lots of rappers are very talented at what they do like Kanye West, Ludacris, etc. But can they change your life?

I have no problem with rap, in fact I like it. I love rock also. I just like music in general. The problem with everyone is that they are too simple minded to be open to all sorts of music. Rap included. Each type of music has their own appeal to a listener, and it is up to them to decide if they like it or not, but unfortunately it seems too many people try to force their opinions on others by trashing any kind of music including rap (which you say others have) and rock (which you are doing right now.) Who gives a s*&^. If you like it then listen to it, but don't go around assuming all rock n roll is jumping around screaming. If you think that, YOUR A FOOL!

Music and musicians take time to mature. Rock sucked as bad as Rap in its early days. It really did. It took time to get the genre to mature, and actually be worth listening to.
There is a lot of hate in Rap these days, just as there was in Rock at the time. It needs to move on and explore its space.
Will Smith has been doing a good job of that. Enimen is trying, but is not quite out of the hate stage yet.
Rap artists need to figure out how to make their music work, and how to fit in. And it happens with each and every generation.
Us old farts don't really hate Rap. It just is not there yet. Go figure. Peace and Love.

Why do some people that enjoy rock loathe rap? Because the majority of rappers can barely speak anything besides ebonics, and are morons straight from the projects. They call each other "*******", while their intellectual counterparts have spent ages trying to destroy such derogatory behavior. They glorify drug-use and womanizing, and think fashion is wearing metal caps on their teeth.
Do you understand my English, or do I have to use double negatives and end every sentence with "-izzle" and "***"?

rock has passion, has been around for about 40 years older, requires skills beyound nimble lips and a general idea of what prostitutes do. rock is fluid too. you can make 10 minute rock opera's or 30 second pieces. fort minor and the beastie boys are OK, but the're hip-hop and one is radically serious and the other is radically wild.

i used to like rap and then i saw the light and started listening to rock. rock has more emotion and is more meaningful in terms of having substance to a song and people can actually relate to it. with rap, it's harder to relate cuz i'm definately not a "pimp" or a "ho" and it's just harder to find some common ground with rap.
