I found an old glass bottle /jug. It is clear glass and stands about 2 ft. high. It is apx. 18 inches acros at it's widest point. The mouth has an opening of 2 inches. It will hold 10 gallons or more.It must have had a cork closure because there are no grooves or ridges for a screw on top. It has these words on front (embossed) "PYREX REG U S PAT OFF MADE IN USA".
Any help on dating this or direction to any website that may be helpful would be appreciated. (Sorry I didn't know what category this should go in)

I know the bluer in tint, the older the bottle. Look for seams running down the sides or bubbles in the glass. This also helps in identifying age.

To research it, I would go to your local forest service/museum (or where you found the bottle). Often there is information about historic settlements. BE CAREFUL, in many places it is illegal to remove historic trash.
