im going back to school this fall to study nursing full time. during our orientation last june, it was strongly advised that we spend less time at work, or quit work if possible because of the school's rigorous program. (everything is compressed in 2 years).
i organized my schedule, there are 3 vacant days in a week that i could work the whole day. (i compressed the subjects in 3 whole days -- 15 hours straight each day -- whew!)

my job... i work as a cellphone dealer to pay my way through college. most of the time all i do is troubleshoot, and my workplace is in an area where rich people live, therefore, they are spoiled and expect 100% customer service (and satisfaction). i have a bunch of "regulars" (complainers) who kill their own phones and put the blame on me. the job sucks, but my boss is nice. however, sometimes one problem after another, the emotional stress has started to drain me. i deal with complaining customers, uncooperative co-workers, and demanding services.

i am the middle-man -- the person who gets blamed all the time.
if the job was any easier, i think i would be able to handle juggling work and school.
it does seem like it's just a small job and you would think that there is less stress in it -- i don't think it is though.

it's a long and dreadful story.

the question is, should i quit this job and focus in school, although i wouldn't have an income at all.

or should i stick to it, deal with it and be miserable until i finish school?

to the person who called me moron below: i can't quit it because i help my mother financially -- i pay for my tuition, transportation, and other bills.

I say quit the job,

As a person in human resources, I know that there are so many more jobs available that specifically cater to your situation. Also, they can provide decent income especially to someone who has a degree such as yourself. Call various staffing agencies in your area. They can match a job that fits your needs and your area of expertise. This is how agencies make money....by finding you work.

You don't need to work for a cell phone company and deal with snobby complaining people. You seem more talented than that. Try to see if you can find something else. You more than likely will find something but if you can't, remember what your goals are and decide for yourself what is the best way to achieve them with your goals in mind.

Hope this helps. and good luck

Retail sucks. Period.

If you're going to be in a rigorous program, even though you have 3 days off you may need them to study and relax...It sounds like you already know that you're going to quit and are just looking for approval...if that's the case, ask your boss if you can come back if you need to or only work during the holidays (when you have no classes)...most bosses in retail are cool about that...especially if you've been a good employee...another option is to quit, but look for another job that's maybe a little less stressful, but still flexible...I have friends that worked at AAA (the car/travel company) at nights doing data entry and answering phones and stuff...

You don't need the emotional stress, school will do that to you anyway.

Hi,
It sure ain't easy to juggle between work and classes. However, since its important to get an income aswell, consider looking for another job if the work pressure is just over the top, else it might affect your classes and perhaps even health.
You sure are a nice person to take care of your mother and pay for your own bills and stuff & God bless you for that.

Though easier said than done, don't take what ppl say personally. We, humans tend to expect a bit too much.
As many here have said, at the end of the day, it all comes down to what you wanna do, afterall, u know your situation best.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Cheers,
-Steff

Only you can make that decision and no amount of advice from do-gooders like me will change that.

Talk to your boss! If he really is 'nice' you can lay all your cards on the table. While it is hard to live without an income while at school why not discover what the other students do? If they are ALL financially secure, they you need to be too.

But you should also listen to your school which suggests you can't work and study. It IS hard, but if you are tough you can do it. I'm not so sure how tough you are if you let assholes wind you up at work. Why not shaft a few of them [as a practice for real life later]?

Because looking for a job while you are employed is not cheating and you job doesn't have feelings. Another thing, you NEED a job to support yourself. You don't need a relationship. Actually sometimes it's best to be alone between relationships.

you know as well as anyone as a nursing student that you are overdoing it and need to heed the advice of your leaders. don't be afraid of the loans! that is what they are for. with the nursing shortage you have a good outlook at paying them off when you land a a job!

better to have the degree and some loans (like most grads) than to be debt-free and degree-less. your earning power should show you the differences.

sounds like you already know your answer--you should quit your current job and focus on school...sounds like your current job isnt worth the emotional stress, especially when you're trying to focus on a heavy workload..if u need money, look for an alternate job that doesnt require as much time, maybe a part time banking job.

You must've wrote this on one of your off days huh? Yeah, I'd say find a less stressful job, or quit altogether. School is way more important.

Only you know if you should quit your job or not. I don't think anyone can tell you what you should do. Somethings you just got to figure out on your own :)
